Running a veterinary business is as rewarding as it is demanding. Whether you’re starting out, scaling up, or leading a mature practice, challenges are a daily reality. Competing priorities, unexpected setbacks, and the sheer pace of work can easily feel overwhelming. That’s why resilience matters.
Resilience isn’t just about “bouncing back” – it’s a skill you can learn, practise, and strengthen. In the veterinary world, I like to define it as the ability to navigate challenges with strength, so that you, your team, and your business can thrive. Developing resilience doesn’t just make life calmer and happier at work – it can also bring balance and fulfilment to life beyond the practice too.
In this video, I share practical strategies to build resilience in yourself and your team, starting with emotional intelligence.
EQ is about recognising, understanding, and managing emotions – both your own and those of others. Self-awareness is the foundation. Tools like DISC, MBTI, Insights or Career Anchors can help you understand your natural strengths, blind spots, and preferences, while feedback from your team provides valuable insight into how your style impacts those around you.
From there, resilience grows through connection: knowing yourself, knowing your team, and enabling your team to know one another. This builds trust, strengthens culture, and creates the conditions for growth. Along the way, I’ll share some powerful questions to ask yourself and your team – questions that sharpen focus, improve relationships, and accelerate growth.
Resilience is not about ignoring difficulty; it’s about meeting challenges with self-awareness, openness, and strength. With the right tools, you can transform pressure into progress – and ensure your business grows in a way that feels rewarding for everyone involved.
